What this is

Mosquito Almanac is an independent reference on mosquitoes: the species, the diseases they can carry, how to control them, and how to avoid being bitten. If you have a mosquito question, the goal is that this site can answer it accurately and show you where the answer came from.

It is written for two readers at once. If you are a homeowner, a parent, or a traveler with a practical problem, the plain-language answer is at the top of every page. If you are a student, a researcher, or just someone who wants the details, the sourced depth and the full reference list are right below it.

What makes it different

Most mosquito information online comes from companies that get paid when you book a treatment, so the advice tends to bend toward the sale. Other trustworthy sources, like public health agencies and research journals, are accurate but written for specialists.

This site sits in between. It sells nothing, so nothing bends the facts. And it is written in plain language, then backed by the same authoritative sources the specialists use.

Independent and non-commercial

Mosquito Almanac does not sell mosquito control products or services, and it does not accept payment to recommend any brand. When a product type is discussed, it is described by what the science says, not by who is paying.

How we handle facts

Every statistic, disease figure, species detail, and claim about what works is traced to a real, authoritative source. If a claim cannot be sourced, it is left out. You can read more on the How we source page, and every content page carries its own reference list and a date showing when it was last reviewed.

This is an educational resource. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for a doctor, a veterinarian, or your local mosquito control program.
